Advice on 'should I get an iphone'???

So blogging friends, I value your opinions greatly and hope you are able to share some of your wisdom with me in regard to my next mobile phone contract.
I regularly read on blogs (quite possibly your blog!) about great applications on the iphone that can be used in relation to scrapbooking ie different photo apps like hipstamatic, pin hole camera or even bazzil colour matching!!! Obviously there are scrapbooking apps too but many of these extras cost money so not sure I would be spending out on that many of them anyway!

Is the iphone 4 much better than the 3??? Is the iphone really just a fashion accessory that I feel I have to have as so many of the cool kids have it (ie all my big neices and nephews!!)?? Will I get just as much out of say an HTC phone?? The cost difference is pretty big between an iphone and an HTC android one so I would save about £19 a month with a better package if I go android!! How do the cameras compare ...any ideas??Decisions decisions!!??**!

So what mobile do you have? Are you even bothered about the latest apps available? Would you or do you use any of the scrapbook related ones??

Thanks so much for taking time to read this and I will really be grateful for any views at all! Hubby has spent a while researching for me as my current contract ends soon and he fell in love with the ideal android phone and ordered himself one today!!!

Look forward to reading your top tips/pros and cons/for and againsts etc etc in this debate that is ongoing inside my head!!

  1. Sorry not to be able to advance your thinking - I am still using a £19.99 phone I bought about eight years ago that I buy vouchers for every so often. I am happily ensconsed in NerdLand!

  3. I refuse to pay over £10 a month for my contract so suppose an iphone would be out of the question - my husband chose my current phone for me with the proviso that it could be anything - as long as it wasn't pink!! Although my friend does have a purple blackberry which did look very cute!!

  4. I keep thinking I want one but just because they seem to be everywhere. So each time I see someone has used Hipstamatic or Photobooth, I find a way to create my own film photos or photostrips and so on an realise I don't really need one after all.

I just kind of think that the money could be better spent!

P.S. All this could be wrong because iPhones are lovely and I want one.

  5. I wouldn't go back to any other phone. I love being able to check my mail on my phone which I couldn't do previously. The apps are fun but some of them are just novelty apps and don't do a lot like some of the games. For work though, calendar-syncing, to-do list syncing etc. is invaluable for me. Facebook, twitter etc are all fun too. I have the 3G, can't compare it to anything else but it is fine for me. I think the internet is slightly quicker on the 3GS and 4G. I bought a handset on pay and go, cost me about £300 at the time. I then bought an 02 simplicity SIM card. That cost me £19 per month for 1600 mins, 800 texts and unlimited 3G. I also got £100 cashback from quidco by buying the sim card, in the long run it worked out about £150 cheaper than getting a free phone and paying £35 a month. They have changed the packages slightly but I'll likely go for :
http://shop.o2.co.uk/tariffs/simplicity/iphone/12_months next time...just another way of doing it that might sway you one way or another. You can probably pick up 3Gs as cheap as £200 or less now. I bought mine before the 4G was out. I ummed and ahhed for a whole year about buying one and I literally wish I'd bought it straight away. It works like a dream, the touch screen is easy after the inital shock of not having buttons, it's intelligent in it's menu's, you don't have to click hundreds of buttons, it is easy to use and navigate. I sound like I work for Apple!!

  6. Sorry I can't advise on the price because my DH does mine through a business contract for me. I use it for checking emails in the evenings because I always turn my computer off at tea time so I can spend some time with the kids.

  7. I have a Nokia smartphone so I can get my emails delivered to my phone, I can get onto the internet (though the pages are basically text, no pretty graphics) and I have the fun of the touch screen! It takes decent photos and also holds a lot of music so I can use it as an mp3. I'm very happy with it, but I'd love an iPhone!! Just can't justify the extra cost!! I think some of the apps are a bit gimmicky, though some sound a lot of fun. I'm just not sure how much I'd actually use them. Being able to blog from my phone would be good, though - in theory I can do that from my Nokia, in practice I haven't figured it out yet but I'm not convinced I could include the detail and number of images I usually have in a post....

  8. Yes yes yes!!!! I have an iphone and (sad as it sounds) I couldn't live without it!!! Mine is 3GS and I was disappointed with the camera. BUT the hipstamatic app and other cool photo apps make up for that. The Iphone 4 is meant to have a better camera.

  9. Well, I am a nerdy dork with an old hand-me-down phone that mostly sits uncharged .... I am now hanging my head in shame! Sorry, no help whatsoever am I?
