Book Club

Over 3 years ago, a group of mothers (including me) from my daughters class set up 'the Book Club'. It has been a great opportunity to read a variety of books, some I have loved, several I liked and a few I loathed. I read books for a multitude of reasons, in the book club because they are chosen for me I often read things I would not normally try. This is how I discovered 'the Time Travellers Wife' by Audrey Nefenegger and it is now one of my all time favourite ever books. Being part of the group means I have to find time to read the book (sounds obvious!). I don't feel able to attempt to discuss a novel if I haven't got a good grasp of the whole storyline (unlike one particularly amusing member of the group).
2010 so far has been a pretty poor year for reading and I have only read one book so far! I read most of this one book today because I have book club tomorrow night! I had already covered my back by watching the film a couple of weeks ago but feel much better now I have completed the novel.

There are piles of books waiting to be read on my book shelves so I am not going to buy any more until I work my way through a few more! What books have you read and loved or loathed? What are you reading at the moment? Any recommendations? Or are you a non book reader?

  2. I'm in a book club too with some mums from school. I am a hit ot miss member as I don't always read the monthly book but I do try. My fave read of the club so far is The Outsider, amazing read but many in our club hated it and said it was too dark.

  3. What do you think of that book??? I have just finished Dawn Frenchs biography - thought it would be really funny - dont get me wrong, it is v. funny in places but I also found it quite sad. My favourite book so far is Marian Keyes - This Charming Man - soooooo funny!

  4. Oh! this is interesting. Before I started making cards I would say reading was my hobby, now it's more of a nightcap so progress is slow. I'd love to be in a book reading group. I've just read the first Twilight book which was light & easy to read but my favourite books of the moment are by Lee Child, thriller types starring macho hero Jack Reacher. I could go on & on.....but this is Ruth's blog.

  6. I'm reading The Darker Domain by Val McDermid at the mo - I nearly always spend at least half an hour in the bath each night with a book - we weighed our books last time we went on holiday and used 2kg of our baggage allowance lol!
I tend to read anything that jumps off the library or charity shop shelves at me
    {hugs} xx

  7. We have a local book club but I'm at work when it is on so I can't go. I love reading and will read most things - on the 2nd Peter Kay book at the mo. Someone has recommended Kristin Hannah to me - need to see if the local library has anything - think I am one of their best customers!
